The Twin Pike Family YMCA is $12,000 closer to completing fundraising for its Phase III expansion project to build an indoor aquatics center and walking track. This recent boost in support came in large part from a $10,000 grant received from the Incitec Pivot Limited (IPL) Community Fund. IPL is the owner of Dyno Nobel Inc. The Community Action Committee (CAC) of the Louisiana, MO Dyno Nobel plant also donated $1,000 to the Y pool project, which was in turn matched by the company’s corporate office.
Members of the local CAC committee delivered a “big” fascimile check, representing the total $12,000 contribution, to Twin Pike Family YMCA Board Member and Project Fundraising Chair Charlie Perkins and Executive Director Marsha Garrison. “We are very grateful for the support local businesses are giving the Y Pool Project,” said Perkins. “As we continually try to tell people in the Twin Pike area, the Y is here for everyone to use and enjoy. The indoor pool and walking track will enable the Y to offer even more programs that can help all residents in our communities live a healthier lifestyle.”

Some might say the spirit of Saint Patrick himself was with the Sunday school students of Centenary United Methodist Church, Louisiana, MO on March 17. The kids prefer to say their delicious cookies are what made their fundraiser that Sunday a success. The youth, who sold their homemade shamrock-shape cookies to a captive audience following the church service, proudly donated $273 to the Twin Pike Family YMCA Pool Project. $173 of the donation total came from the cookie sales. The other $100 was from proceeds from the sale of Watkins products by Katherine Todd, grandmother of two of the students.
